How to Get to the Sagrada Família

Metro lines L2 and L5 stop at Sagrada Família station — 2 minutes walk. Everything else: bus, taxi, bike, on foot, and from the airport.

Address: Carrer de Mallorca, 401, 08013 Barcelona. The nearest Metro station is Sagrada Família on Lines 2 (purple) and 5 (blue) — 2 minutes' walk from the main entrance. The Metro is by far the easiest and fastest way to get there from anywhere in central Barcelona.

Which Entrance to Use

Pre-booked ticket holders (skip-the-line) use the priority entrance on Carrer de Mallorca. Walk-up ticket buyers use a different entrance. Follow the signs from the Metro exit — they clearly distinguish between the two queues. Show your QR code ticket on your phone before reaching the gate.

Walking from Nearby Hotels and Neighbourhoods

The Eixample grid makes walking distances easy to estimate. Each block is approximately 113 metres. From the main hotels in the Eixample neighbourhood, the Sagrada Família is between 10 and 25 minutes on foot. From Passeig de Gràcia (the central boulevard), walking northeast along Carrer de Provença or Carrer d'Aragó takes about 20 to 25 minutes.

Passeig de Gràcia 22–25 min walk
El Born / Gothic Quarter 35–40 min walk (Metro faster)
Gràcia neighbourhood 18–22 min walk
Casa Batlló 20–24 min walk
Park Güell 30–35 min walk south
Barcelona-Sants (station) Metro L3 to Diagonal, L5 to Sagrada Família

From Barcelona Airport

Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) is approximately 15 km southwest of the Sagrada Família. The most efficient public transport route: take the Aerobus (A1 or A2) from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to Plaça de Catalunya (30 to 40 minutes, €6.75), then take Metro Line 2 or 5 from Passeig de Gràcia or Catalunya to Sagrada Família station (10 minutes). Total journey time is approximately 50 to 60 minutes.

The RENFE Cercanías train from the airport is cheaper (€4.60) but slower: it terminates at Sants station, requiring an additional metro ride. By taxi from the airport, expect 25 to 35 minutes and a fare of approximately €35 to €45 depending on traffic and time of day.

Combining with Other Barcelona Sights

The Sagrada Família works well as a morning anchor for a day that continues in the Eixample or further afield. After visiting, the most natural progression is westward along Avinguda de Gaudí to the Hospital de Sant Pau (a UNESCO-listed Modernista complex, 10 minutes on foot), or by metro to Passeig de Gràcia for Casa Batlló and La Pedrera.

Park Güell is 30 minutes north on foot or 15 minutes by taxi. Both require advance booking and scheduling them back-to-back can feel rushed. If you plan to visit both in one day, start at Sagrada Família at the 9:00 opening slot and book Park Güell for early afternoon (13:00 or 14:00). See our one-day itinerary guide for a full suggested schedule.

Getting There FAQs

Click any question to reveal the answer.

What is the nearest Metro station to the Sagrada Família?

The nearest Metro station is Sagrada Família, served by both Line 2 (purple) and Line 5 (blue). From the Sagrada Família station, the main entrance on Carrer de Mallorca is a 2-minute walk. Exit the metro following the signs for 'Sagrada Família' and you'll see the towers immediately.

How do I get from Barcelona city centre to the Sagrada Família?

The quickest route from the city centre (Las Ramblas or Passeig de Gràcia) is the Metro. From Passeig de Gràcia, take Line 2 or 5 directly to Sagrada Família station — about 10 minutes. Alternatively, buses 19, 33, 43, 44, 50, and 51 all stop near the building.

Is there parking near the Sagrada Família?

There is underground parking at Avinguda de Gaudí (Parking Sagrada Família), but parking in this area is expensive and spaces fill up quickly on weekends. We strongly recommend using the Metro instead. The Eixample neighbourhood's grid makes driving frustrating and finding street parking near the building is very difficult.

How far is the Sagrada Família from Barcelona airport?

The Sagrada Família is approximately 15 km from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN). By Aerobus to Plaça de Catalunya plus Metro, the journey takes about 45–55 minutes. By taxi, expect 25–35 minutes depending on traffic, costing around €30–40.
