Which Entrance to Use
Pre-booked ticket holders (skip-the-line) use the priority entrance on Carrer de Mallorca. Walk-up ticket buyers use a different entrance. Follow the signs from the Metro exit — they clearly distinguish between the two queues. Show your QR code ticket on your phone before reaching the gate.
Walking from Nearby Hotels and Neighbourhoods
The Eixample grid makes walking distances easy to estimate. Each block is approximately 113 metres. From the main hotels in the Eixample neighbourhood, the Sagrada Família is between 10 and 25 minutes on foot. From Passeig de Gràcia (the central boulevard), walking northeast along Carrer de Provença or Carrer d'Aragó takes about 20 to 25 minutes.
From Barcelona Airport
Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) is approximately 15 km southwest of the Sagrada Família. The most efficient public transport route: take the Aerobus (A1 or A2) from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to Plaça de Catalunya (30 to 40 minutes, €6.75), then take Metro Line 2 or 5 from Passeig de Gràcia or Catalunya to Sagrada Família station (10 minutes). Total journey time is approximately 50 to 60 minutes.
The RENFE Cercanías train from the airport is cheaper (€4.60) but slower: it terminates at Sants station, requiring an additional metro ride. By taxi from the airport, expect 25 to 35 minutes and a fare of approximately €35 to €45 depending on traffic and time of day.
Combining with Other Barcelona Sights
The Sagrada Família works well as a morning anchor for a day that continues in the Eixample or further afield. After visiting, the most natural progression is westward along Avinguda de Gaudí to the Hospital de Sant Pau (a UNESCO-listed Modernista complex, 10 minutes on foot), or by metro to Passeig de Gràcia for Casa Batlló and La Pedrera.
Park Güell is 30 minutes north on foot or 15 minutes by taxi. Both require advance booking and scheduling them back-to-back can feel rushed. If you plan to visit both in one day, start at Sagrada Família at the 9:00 opening slot and book Park Güell for early afternoon (13:00 or 14:00). See our one-day itinerary guide for a full suggested schedule.
