Do I Need to Book a Specific Time Slot?

Yes. All Sagrada Família tickets are timed-entry, meaning you book a specific hour slot (e.g., 9:00 AM or 11:30 AM) rather than an open-access pass. Slots sell out days or weeks ahead from April through September. Walk-up tickets at the door are extremely rare and cannot be relied on.

The timed-entry system was introduced to manage the 10,000+ daily visitors the Sagrada Família receives in peak season. It's actually good news for you: once you have a slot, you walk straight in through the priority entrance with no waiting.

In quieter months (November through February), you can sometimes book tickets 1–2 days ahead. In summer, aim for 2–3 weeks minimum. See our full guide on the best time to visit the Sagrada Família for crowd data by month and hour.

What Is the Best Time Slot to Book?

The 9:00 AM opening slot is consistently the best. You get the building before tour groups arrive, the morning sun enters through the east-facing Nativity stained glass (the most spectacular light in the building), and you can photograph the interior without crowds blocking your shots.

The next best option is a late afternoon slot: around 5:00–6:00 PM. The building thins out, and the west-facing Passion stained glass is dramatically lit by the setting sun. This is also the best photography slot for the exterior Passion façade.

Avoid the 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM window if you can. That's when coach tours and cruise ship visitors arrive in volume. Learn more in our complete Sagrada Família tips guide.

Is the Sagrada Família open on Sundays?

Yes, but with a later start. Sunday opening hours are 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. The later Sunday opening is because Mass is held in the morning. Avoid Sunday afternoons — they're among the busiest times of the entire week.

What time does the Sagrada Família close?

Standard closing time is 7:00 PM (19:00). In summer (July and August), it extends to 8:00 PM. In winter (November through February), it closes earlier at 6:00 PM. Last entry is always 30 minutes before closing time.

Is the Sagrada Família open on public holidays?

It closes on Christmas Day (25 December) and New Year's Day (1 January) every year. On other public holidays including Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and local Barcelona holidays, it remains open on modified hours. Always check the official website for the specific date you plan to visit.

What is the best time slot to book for the Sagrada Família?

The 9:00 AM opening slot is consistently the best. You arrive before the bulk of tour groups, the morning light enters from the east through the Nativity stained glass (spectacular), and you can get photos without crowds in the way. Book this slot especially if you're visiting in June, July, or August.
